The most famous event is Fairplay's Burro Days, which is expected to bring in about 15,000 people this year. This annual event is about to hit its 60th year and is always held the last full weekend in July. Festivities celebrate the role that the Burro played in our rich history. The main event is the Burro Race (one person & one burro), a 29-mile race to the 13,000 foot summit of Mosquito Pass and back to historic Front Street in Fairplay. This "World Championships of Burro Races" takes about 5 hours to complete. Along with the race, there are Llama races, arts & crafts, parades, and plenty of food!
